Opening Times

Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 17:00. On performance evenings the Box Office will remain open up to 30 minutes after the start of the last performance. On weekends the Box Office will open 2 hours prior to the start of a show and close 30 minutes after the start of the last performance.

about the venue

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is a vibrant public arts centre and Wales' National Conservatoire for students training to enter music and theatre related professions. 

Our performance venues range from the acoustically excellent Dora Stoutzker Hall to more intimate studio spaces each with varying levels of accessibility.  We are dedicated to improving accessibility across all venues and we welcome feedback.

Dora Stoutzker Hall

The Dora Stoutzker Hall is accessible via the main foyer. It has 4 wheelchair spaces in the stalls (ground level) and 2 in the circle (level 1) which can be accessed via staircase or lift.

Toilets are on the lower ground level, accessed via a lift next to the Box Office.

Richard Burton Theatre

The Richard Burton theatre is accessed from main foyer and has 6 wheelchair spaces. 4 wheelchair spaces in the stalls (ground level) and 2 in circle (level 1), accessed via staircase or lift.

The nearest toilets are on the lower ground level, accessed via a lift next to the Box Office.

Seligman Studio

Accessible via a lift next to the Box Office. The nearest toilets are on the lower ground level, accessible by a lift next to the Box Office. There are wheelchair spaces upon request.

Simon Gibson Studio

Accessible via a lift next to the Box Office. The neatest toilets are on the lower ground level, accessible by a lift next to the Box Office. There are wheelchair spaces upon request. 

Rowe-Beddoe

Situated on the second floor, accessible via a lift in the Linbury Gallery. The nearest toilets are on the first floor or next to the Bute Theatre on the ground floor.

Studio 1

Situated on the second floor, accessible via a lift in the Linbury Gallery. The nearest toilets are on the first floor or next to the Bute Theatre on the ground floor.

Bute Theatre

Situated on the Ground floor, at the opposite end of the Linbury Gallery to the main foyer (it will take a few minutes to reach the venue from the box office, please leave a little time to collect your tickets).

The closest toilets are next to the theatre doors (including facilities for disabled patrons). Wheelchair spaces upon request.

Studio 2

Situated on the first floor, accessible via a lift near the south entrance (it will take a few minutes to reach the venue from the box office, please leave a little time to collect your tickets).

Wheelchair spaces upon request. Closest toilets on the ground floor next to the Bute Theatre.

Caird Studio

On the third floor, accessible via a lift or stairs near the south entrance (it will take a few minutes to reach the venue from the box office, please leave a little time to collect your tickets). RWCMD FoH staff can assist with directing patrons.

There are wheelchair spaces upon request. The nearest accessible toilets are on the second floor near the lift.

Weston Gallery

In the Anthony Hopkins Centre, on the ground floor of our additional onsite building (it will take a few minutes to reach the venue from the box office, please leave a little time to collect your tickets).

emergency evacuation information

On hearing the Alarm please evacuate the premises using the nearest available exit. Our Duty Manager will assist and, where necessary, with the use of EVAC Chairs, which are available in many locations throughout the premises. Everyone must proceed to the assembly point between main building and Anthony Hopkins Centre.

Our foyer overlooks the beautiful Bute Park and is a fully accessible ground level space. The Box Office, Café and Bar, Richard Burton Theatre and Dora Stoutzker Hall entrances are all located in the foyer.

linbury gallery and studio spaces

From the foyer customers can also access the Linbury Gallery, our versatile exhibition gallery. Access can also be gained to our studio spaces which are located just off the main foyer on level 1 and level 2, these are fully accessible by lift.

All toilet facilities (including facilities for disabled patrons) are downstairs and accessible from the foyer via a lift or stairs.

any special access information

Hearing loops are available for performances taking place in the Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall and Richard Burton theatre. These are available from the Box Office, customers are required to pay a £5 deposit, refundable upon return. All performance spaces are accessible via lift where necessary.

on foot

Situated in the Centre of Cardiff, the College is close to several public transport hubs, making it ideal for reaching on foot. The College is just a 20 minute walk from Cardiff Central Station, 15 minutes from Cardiff Queen Street and 5 minutes from Cathays Station.

by public transport

Cardiff city centre is served by an extensive public transport network including mainline and network rail services and local and regional bus services.

rail

The nearest local rail station is at Cathays on the Valleys Lines network, while Cardiff Central is the closest mainline station. A half-hourly service connects Cardiff with London Paddington Station in less than two hours. bus

Local and regional bus services (Cardiff Bus 21, 23, 25 and 27) regularly pass the front door of the College as do a range of services on the Stagecoach and National Express network. by bike

The College is also accessible by bike. A cycle path along North Road runs directly past the College campus and links with the Taff Trail, Route 8 of the National Cycle Network which runs alongside the River Taff.

by car

The M4 motorway, crossing the Severn Bridge near Bristol, is the major road-link to Cardiff and South Wales. The M4 provides a direct route between Cardiff, Heathrow Airport and London, and is easily accessible from other parts of the UK.

car parking

Parking spaces at the College are restricted to disabled badge-holders only, these are located at the front entrance of the main building and next to the Anthony Hopkins Centre. These spaces are not bookable, but available on a first come, first served basis. There are pay-and-display car parks adjacent to the College on either side. There is further parking available throughout the Civic Centre, opposite the College's main entrance on the other side of North Road, and is operated via a pay-and-display system.
