Swansea Grand Theatre

about the venue

The Grand Theatre is an entertainment venue with three floors in the main auditorium. The lift in the Arts Wing gives access to all floors of the theatre including the Grand and Upper Circle in the main auditorium. There is level access for wheelchair users into the stalls and also into the Footlights Bar.

Entrances: Best Approach

The best approach into the theatre would be through the box office entrance where the lift is easy accessible and there are also staff available to assist. The stalls access is flat and there are two sets of stairs to the Grand and Upper Circle either side of the auditorium. Ushers and usherettes are available on all entrances to the auditorium to offer further assistance. There is also another entrance via Footlights Bar and restaurant with access to the garden and conservatory.

Event Spaces

There are two main entrances to the theatre – box office and Footlights bar and restaurant. After a performance ends, a further four fire doors are opened for patrons to filter out of the theatre. These are located at the back of the stalls leading onto Singleton Street. There are toilets on all three levels close to the auditorium doors. Also another set of toilets in the box office area. The Depot studio is located in the Arts Wing on Level 3 with stairs and lift access. The exhibition spaces are located on all three levels In the Arts Wing with stairs and lift access also.

Emergency Evacuation Information

There are smoke detectors throughout the theatre and Arts Wing which activate the alarm system, at the stage door. If we need to evacuate the building the Senior House Manager would make an announcement from stage to the public. A member of staff will accompany disabled customers. Patrons with a disability will be evacuated after able bodied patrons have been evacuated. The usher or usherette on duty will lead you to the relevant evacuation route and use appropriate evacuation chairs if necessary. These are outside the auditorium doors on both sides of the Grand Circle.

Arts Wing

The public will be directed to nearest fire exit away from the incident. The holding area for people with a disability will be the rear fire escape exit, where an usher/usherette will stay with the patron and communicate via radio.
