about the venue

Theatr Brycheiniog was built in 1997 as the first wholly funded Lottery new build arts organisation in the UK. Idyllically set alongside Brecon's canal basin, our tehatre hosts a varied programme of theatre, music, dance and community events as well as exhibitions and workshops. We are working towards becoming fully accessible. and are dedicated to making your visit as comfortable as possible. If you have any enquiries or special requirements, please let our Box Office know in advance.

venue facilities

We have several event spaces that are versatile for a variety of events. Most of our performances take place in the auditorium. Our auditorium has level access to part of the stalls with designated wheelchair spaces, additional legroom, and handrails available. The balcony has wheelchair access to two seats also and is accessible via the lift. There is an infra-red hearing loop system in house too. Accessible toilets are less than 10 metres away from the front auditorium entrances.

Our cafe is on the ground floor with flat floor access. The accessible toilet is approximately 10 metres away from the main door.

We have a studio/rehearsal space on the ground floor with level access and an accessible toilet less than 10 metres from the main door.

The Andrew Lamont Gallery is on the second floor and is accessible via the lift with an accessible toilet within the space.

Our Meeting Room is also on the second floor, it is approximately 35m away from the lift with manual doors on the way - a member of staff can help you.

The Waterfront Bar is on the first floor and is accessible via the lift, with an accessible toilet within the space.

emergency evacuation information

Do not use the lift in the event of a fire - first and second floors have safe spaces and there is an evacuation chair onsite to assist with the safe evacuation of customers with limited mobility. Our staff and Front of House will provide information on how to evacuate the building, the nearest emergency exits, and the meeting point. Ground floor emergency exits are level access access to the evacuation point.

The evacuation point is at the end of the canal basin, approximately 30m as you turn right out of our front entrance.

venue facilities

We have female, male and accessible toilets on every floor. The ground floor toilet is approximately 3 metres from the auditorium entrance. The first floor toilet is approximately 6 metres from the auditorium entrance, and 40m from the wheelchair user spaces in the balcony. The second floor accessible toilet is approximately 3 metres from the auditorium entrance.

Box Office is on the ground floor by the entrance, they can help with any queries and information.

The cafe on the ground floor serves a range of food and drinks, if yuo would like to book a table for a pre-show dinner please contact Box Office.

On the first floor the bar is open on show nights. The public are also welcomed to sit in the bar area if they would like a quieter space during the day.

special access information

Theatr Brycheiniog is working towards becoming fully accessible, with flat floor access to the building through the automatic doors at the front entrance.

The audotorium has ten spaces for wheelchair users in the stalls and balcony (please contact Box Office as these aren't available online).

We have accessible toilets on each floor that are located between the life and the staircase.

Assistance and guide dogs are welcomed, and the cafe has dog treats, and can provide a bowl of fresh water if required.

We are a dementia friendly theatre.

We are increasing the amount of relaxed performances we have. These are adaptations of the show specifically designed for anyone who may find the typical theatre experience overwhemling or who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.

If you require seating for a standing event, please let Box Office know so we can provide seating.

getting here

Theatr Brycheiniog is a 3 minute walk from the town centre of Brecon, and a 6 minute walk from the bus station. We have a 70 space car park outside the theatre on Canal Road, as well as a bicycle stand.
